The Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta







The Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta is a mountain range in Colombia that is itself an isolated system of the Andes Mountains on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. It rises steeply from the shores of the Caribbean Sea to snow-capped peaks at an altitude of 5,775 masl (meters above sea level), however, data provided by the SRTM mission indicate a lower altitude of about 5,700 masl.

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Natural Park and the Tayrona National Natural Park, which are administered by the Ministry of Environment. It is located at approximately 10°52' North and 73°43' West (position of its central peaks), between the departments of Magdalena, La Guajira and Cesar, in the Colombian Caribbean. This region is part of the PDET targeted territories.

Crystal Channel

  Crystal Channel) is a Colombian river located in the Serrania de la Macarena province of Meta, and is a tributary of the Guayabero River. It was found in 1969, by a group of cattle farmers. The river is commonly called the "River of Five Colors" or the "Liquid Rainbow," and is noted for its striking colors. The bed of the river from the end of July through November is variously colored yellow, green, blue, black, and especially red, the last caused by Macarenia clavigera plants (family Podostemaceae) on the riverbed.
