Amacayacu

 


The Amacayacu National Natural Park (PNN Amacayacu) is one of the 56 protected areas of the National Natural Park system of Colombia near the Amazon River, in the so-called "Amazonian trapeze". The name "Macuca" means "Rivers of the Hammocks" in the aboriginal Quechua language.

In this park you can find more than 34,500 species of birds and mammals such as Titi cabeza y blanco, El guacamayo, The toucan and otter animals that are only found there are the striped lion and the four-finned fish.




This park is a nature reserve in Colombia. Constituted by the national government in the mid-seventies in order to preserve wildlife, it was designed to have an educational purpose and dissemination of the natural wealth of the Amazon rainforest; For this, since its creation it was equipped with a visitor center. This park is a must for tourists in the Colombian Amazon and has a network of trails through which you can make eco-tourism walks.
The area is considered of scientific interest, as many zoological specimens have been collected in the park. He estimates that there are about 150 species of mammals, among which the pink dolphin and some endangered species such as the tanda, the jaguar, the manatee and the otter stand out. Among the many species of primates stands out the lion tamarin, the smallest in the world. Amacayacu is also home to some 500 species of birds and a huge variety of freshwater fish. In addition, the park also serves to preserve the culture of the Ticuna people, who currently inhabit it.
