The Cocora Valley


 

The Cocora Valley is a natural landscape located in the central mountain range of the Colombian Andes, specifically in the department of Quindío, in the area of influence of Los Nevados National Natural Park. It has some populations of Colombia's national tree, the Quindío wax palm (Ceroxylon quindiuense), as well as a great variety of flora and fauna, much of it in danger of extinction, protected under the status of national natural park. The valley, as well as the nearby town of Salento, are among Colombia's main tourist destinations.

The Paramillo National Natural Park

  The Paramillo National Natural Park has an area of 504,014 hectares that preserve ecosystems of tropical rainforest, floodplains, Andean and sub-Andean forests, wetlands and paramos that are distributed in altitudinal floors ranging from 125 meters above sea level in its northern part to 3,960 meters above sea level in its southern part. It is located in the jurisdiction of the departments of Córdoba and Antioquia in the municipalities of Tierralta, Puerto Libertador, Montelíbano, San José de Uré, Ituango, Dabeiba, and Peque. Crystal Channel

  Crystal Channel) is a Colombian river located in the Serrania de la Macarena province of Meta, and is a tributary of the Guayabero River. It was found in 1969, by a group of cattle farmers. The river is commonly called the "River of Five Colors" or the "Liquid Rainbow," and is noted for its striking colors. The bed of the river from the end of July through November is variously colored yellow, green, blue, black, and especially red, the last caused by Macarenia clavigera plants (family Podostemaceae) on the riverbed. It is one of the most beautiful rivers in the world, it is located in La Macarena, Meta and is called Caño Cristales.
